Down With Our Ego or Up With Our Spirit

A huge part of our attention goes to the economic challenge we face globally and sooner or later personally, a challenge we cannot ignore. At this moment, there are two roads unfolding in front of us- one is down with our ego, the other is up with our spirit.

The ego’s job is to keep us stuck in the old version of ourselves. Whatever we have believed in, the ego wants us to continue to believe. Ego is nothing but this false view telling us that money is central to our happiness, a condition to our survival, a necessity for our honour and value. Ego tells us that if our money vanishes, then we’re done and finished. Our purpose in life is gone, our strength is gone, our love is gone, and like in the case of a family man in Southern California, we can as well shoot ourselves and our family. The ego would rather kill us than allow us to drop the bundle of beliefs we are stuck in, meaning itself. The ego is this very bundle of old beliefs, and fear is its way of holding a grip on us. Fear killed this father and his family, but strengthened the belief in money as our honour, purpose and power.

The other road unfolding in front of us at this moment is spirit. Spirit speaks with the calm voice beyond the chaos created by fear, the voice which tells us that there is a fullness of creativity, happiness, love and abundance right here right now. No matter what the outer circumstances, we have the capacity to stay connected with this voice, with the complete safety and abundance that comes with being one with the whole of life. This voice is pointing not to one, but to a billion ways out of any challenge, including the financial situation we now face. The way of spirit is one of change, of letting go of beliefs that have proved to be false and embracing the unknown of a new reality. Spirit is abundance and nourishment itself, wanting to flow through us to a world starved of spirit.

To me, it is obvious that what we need to do is trust our own wisdom, have faith in the power of life flowing in and as us, refuse to give in to the fear pointing us to destruction and choose to go up with spirit. Fear is just a ripple, a wave in the vastness of spirit. Fear is simply a form of energy arising and subsiding. Every one of us who chooses to stay put in the clarity, safety and creativity of spirit will help the wave of fear to dissolve. There is infinite abundance and creativity at our disposal, but only if we rise high enough to access it.
